We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Shunter Driver to join our logistics team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely moving heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), trailers, and containers around our yard, depot, or rail terminal. Your primary focus is ensuring smooth yard operations, timely vehicle loading/unloading turnarounds, and adhering strictly to site safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Movement: Safely operate shunting tugs, yard tractors, or HGVs to transfer trailers and containers between loading bays, parking areas, and maintenance docks.
Yard Management: Organize trailer parking layout to maximize space efficiency and ensure easy access for incoming/outgoing vehicles.
Pre- & Post-Trip Inspections: Perform daily safety checks on shunting equipment, trailers, and couplings, reporting any faults, damages, or maintenance needs immediately.
Loading Bay Coordination: Work closely with warehouse and loading teams to dock trailers accurately, secure wheel chocks, and verify weight distribution.
Site Safety & Compliance: Enforce speed limits, pedestrian safety zones, and site safety rules at all times. Secure loads and trailer doors before moving vehicles.
Documentation & Communication: Maintain precise shift logs of trailer movements, seal numbers, and bay assignments; communicate seamlessly via two-way radio.
